Wireless window sensors and glassbreak detectors are two of the most common ways to protect windows against intrusion. Wireless window sensors... are installed on window frames, often times alongside magnets, which are installed on the window itself. When the window is closed, the magnet and sensor are close together. However, when the window opens, a gap is created between the sensor and the window. This communicates to the security system that a window is being opened, which then triggers an audible alarm. But what if the intruder opts to break through the glass instead of opening the window? That's where glassbreak detectors come in. Glassbreak Detectors... have a built-in microphone that's programmed to detect the sound frequency of broken glass. If an intruder were to break the glass pane within 25 feet of the detector, a signal would be sent to the control panel which would then trigger an alarm. Another device that can protect against window intrusions is a shock detector. Shock detectors, like the ASC-SS1 Shock Sensor, are able to detect attempted intrusions before a burglar is able to break the glass pane. Shock detectors can sense vibration rates consistent with that of someone trying to forcibly shatter a glass window. |
