What's the difference between a carbon monoxide alarm and a carbon monoxide detector?

A Carbon Monoxide alarm is...
a stand alone detector with a built-in alarm siren that operates off of battery power. When hazardous carbon monoxide levels are reached, the carbon monoxide alarm siren will be set off. Carbon monoxide alarms are the most basic CO detection devices, and are commonly used in single-family homes.

A Carbon Monoxide detector is...
a detector with a built-in alarm siren that's integrated into a fire alarm system. The detector is either hardwired or wirelessly connected to the control panel. When the detector senses unhealthy CO levels in the air, an alarm is triggered. The alarm signal is then sent to a central monitoring station, where an operator will then dispatch emergency personnel to the location.
