How do I test my Carbon Monoxide (CO) detector?

There are two tests you should conduct on your carbon monoxide detector: a circuit test and a sensor test.

For a circuit test: Locate the "Test" button on the outside of your detector. All carbon monoxide detectors have one. Pressing and holding that button will initialize a test. If the detector beeps and an LED indicator light flashes, then your detector's circuitry is working correctly.

For a sensor test: Make sure you have a can of detector spray handy, like CoCheck Detector Spray. With the spray can, spray a short burst directly into the detector. In a matter of seconds, the detector's alarm should go off. If it does, then you know your device is detecting carbon monoxide in the air. If no alarm goes off, make sure your detector is connected to its power supply, and then repeat the test. If it still doesn't work, you should contact the manufacturer because there's a good chance your detector is defective.
