Product Overview
Overview
The HES 5200 Series Electric Strike is a Grade 1 ANSI/BHMA certified electric door strike designed for cylindrical locksets up to a 3/4" latchbolt throw. It features an innovative in-frame horizontal adjustment mechanism that allows installers to easily align the strike with the latchbolt position after installation. This strike operates in either fail-safe or fail-secure mode (field selectable) and offers robust performance with a 1,500 lb static holding force and 1,000,000+ cycle durability. The 5200 strike is easy to install in standard metal or wood frames, and its compact, 1-3/16" deep form factor fits neatly into a standard ANSI 4-7/8" strike prep.
Adjustable Installation & Compatibility
One of the standout features of the 5200 Series is its horizontal adjustability, which simplifies installation and retrofits. The strike’s opening can be adjusted back and forth by up to 1/4" within the frame, allowing perfect alignment with the door latchbolt without repositioning the strike in the frame. This greatly reduces installation time and troubleshooting for misaligned locks. The 5200 is non-handed for use on left- or right-hand doors, and it includes a trim enhancer (cover plate) to ensure a clean look in the frame cutout. It works with virtually all cylindrical door locks that have up to a 3/4" latch throw (including 5/8" latchbolts commonly used on standard cylindrical locks). Faceplate options are available (sold separately) to adapt the strike for different frame types – for example, the HES 501 faceplate for standard ANSI metal frames or the 501A for aluminum frames. For convenience, the 5200C Complete Pac version bundles the strike body with 501 and 501A faceplates in one kit (satin stainless finish only).
Heavy-Duty Performance
The HES 5200 is heavy-duty, dependable solutions for securing high traffic entrance. The strike has been tested and certified for ANSI/BHMA A156.31 Grade 1 which certifies it for highest strength and enduring life. The strike can withstand 1,500 lbs. of static load and 70 ft-lbs of dynamic impact and exceeds the average use cases fixed combatants servicing commercial door security. The stainless steel locking mechanism and tamper resistant compartment further minimize the risk of forced entry into the compartment. The 5200 is rated for endurance at 1,000,000 cycles, which means it has been designed to work reliably for many millions of cycles, and is an excellent option for high frequency un-lock situations. The electric strike is UL tested and listed for security, safety, and durability and is a good option for securing either office, retail, or institutional doors.
Fail-Safe / Fail-Secure Flexibility
The 5200 strike can be configured with fail-secure (power-to-unlock) or fail-safe (power-to-lock) operation depending on the needs of the opening. This field-selectable feature means that the same unit can support safety requirements for emergency egress, or security requirements for loss of power situations, if necessary. Switching operation modes is simple during installation, enabling a project that originally had one configuration the flexibility of switching to another configuration, depending on project requirements. The 5200 Series also provides optional built-in monitoring capabilities: the installer can specify an LBM (Latchbolt Monitor) and LBSM (Latchbolt Strike Monitor) to provide the door status output to access control systems. These sensors provide the ability to verify remotely if the latch is engaged in the strike prior to entering into the secured opening, increasing security monitoring.
Electrical & Standards Compliance
The HES 5200 is designed for seamless integration into modern access control and alarm systems. It supports dual input voltages of 12 V or 24 V (DC or AC), automatically adapting to either without any field adjustment. The strike draws a low current (only 240 mA @ 12 VDC or 120 mA @ 24 VDC), making it PoE-friendly for deployments using Power over Ethernet power sourcing equipment. It is rated for continuous duty operation, so it can remain powered indefinitely (important for fail-safe mode) without overheating. The 5200 Series meets rigorous UL 1034 (Burglary-Resistant Electric Lock) and UL 294 (Access Control System) standards, indicating its suitability for high-security installations and compliance with life safety and building codes. It is also fully ROHS compliant for environmental safety (lead-free design).
Durability & Warranty
With its robust construction and quality components, the 5200 strike is built to last. The main strike body and keeper are constructed from high-strength stainless steel to resist rust and wear. All electronics are mounted internally, protected from tampering or incidental damage. HES (an ASSA ABLOY group brand) backs the 5200 Series with the SecuriCare 5-year no-fault warranty, which guarantees the strike against failure for five years regardless of cause. For even greater peace of mind, installing the optional HES SMART Pac III in-line power controller extends the warranty to 10 years. This warranty reflects the confidence in the 5200’s long-term performance in the field. Overall, the HES 5200 Series Electric Strike provides a blend of easy installation, adjustable flexibility, and Grade 1 strength, making it well-suited for retrofit or new security projects that demand reliability and compliance.
