Hanchett Entry Systems (HES)
The HES 4500C Series electric strike is a low-profile, heavy-duty solution engineered for fire-rated door frames. It maintains a 1/2" drywall penetration in 2" frames, thanks to its slim 1-3/8" depth design. Built with stainless steel and a unique keeper pin locking mechanism, the 4500C exceeds the strength of the frame, door, and locking hardware for exceptional security. This Grade 1 strike provides reliable remote locking for high-traffic commercial entrances, stairwells, and other applications requiring both convenience and rigorous safety compliance.
The 4500C electric strike, certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.31 Grade 1, offers proven performance with 1500 lb static strength and 100 ft-lb dynamic impact and has completed over 1,000,000 cycles of operation to prove viability in durability. In addition, the strike is built from heavy-duty stainless steel and tamper resistant to durability in the real world. The 4500C offers dual-voltage operation (12/24V AC/DC) with low current draw (240 mA @12VDC) which also works in conjunction within a PoE environment when designing modern access control systems. Optional latchbolt monitors, Latchbolt Monitor and Latchbolt Strike Monitor, for alarm devices, status indicators or for information to enhance your security management, are available for the strike. The 4500C is both UL 294 listed for access control, and UL 1034 for burglary-resistance, meaning it possesses both robust electronic security, as well as robust physical security. The Fail-safe mode is field selectable but not fire rated in accordance with UL 10C.
Designed for hollow metal frames in commercial settings, the 4500C fits standard ANSI 4-7/8" strike preps and can also be used in wood frames with appropriate reinforcement. It includes two interchangeable faceplates for easy installation with either cylindrical or mortise locksets (supporting latchbolts up to 3/4" throw). Its non-handed design and internally mounted solenoid streamline installation on left or right-handed doors. Horizontal adjustment is simplified by full-length keeper shims, and a trim enhancer is provided to cover any rough cuts for a clean, professional look. Field-selectable fail-safe or fail-secure operation allows the strike to meet life-safety codes or security needs as required, with fail-secure (power-to-unlock) ensuring doors remain locked during power loss. When installed in fail-secure mode on a rated door, the 4500C maintains a 3-hour fire door rating for code compliance.
Compared to newer models like the HES 1500 Series which offers integrated adjustability, the 4500C focuses on providing maximum strength in tight, fire-rated frames. The 4500C’s unique keeper pin design enables it to outperform many frames and locks in strength, albeit with a 5-year warranty. For openings not requiring a fire rating, the HES 5200 Series strikes or similar models offer low-profile solutions without the UL 10C constraints. However, when both a slim form factor and high fire/security certifications are needed, the 4500C stands out as the ideal choice. It bridges the gap between standard electric strikes and the all-in-one versatility of the 1006 series, delivering targeted performance for fire-rated, high-security applications.
